2012 ROHW Raises $6,000 for the National Organization for Women
Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. (OPBSI) is proud to announce its monetary contribution, in the amount of $6,000.00, to the Ray of Hope Walk national beneficiary, the National Organization for Women. The National Organization for Women (NOW) is nation’s largest organization of feminist activists and that coordinates, plans, and executes different campaigns and events to end all forms of violence against women and promotes equality and justice in our society. This donation is made possible through OPBSI’s annual Ray of Hope Walk.
The Ray of Hope Walk (ROHW) took place on October 28th at the historic uptown Riverside Park in New York. Friends, families, and the community united in a single goal, to provide necessary funding for crucial programs and research on violence against women. With different walk lengths, scenic routes and a variety of walk activities, the ROHW provided something for everyone. “The Ray of Hope Walk is your chance to get involved in something that has a real impact on your community and the millions of women and families suffering from the real effects that violence has in their homes and lives,” said Monserrat Cabral, National President of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
The ROHW, formerly known as the Ray of Hope Initiative-ROHI, raised funds for domestic violence awareness programs and events nationally. These funds help pay education programs, sponsor self-help groups, and provide financial assistance to families. The annual ROHW focuses on challenging women and men alike to be a part of the movement to end this global epidemic– in an effort to create a safe and equitable society for all.
National sponsorship support included Beauty Cares, Sanctuary for Families and SingleBlackMale.org. In addition to the walk, attendees had an opportunity to listen to poetry by Rawlin Rosario (Hermano of La Unida Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity Inc), Crystal Lopez (Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.), Choque Kultural, Steven Frank (R.A.W, Lambda Sigma Upsilon LatinoFraternity, Inc.), Quineice Clarkson, (Soul Pixie Productions), Roxi Azari (Urban Word) and a step performance by the National Step/Stroll Team of OPBSI who performed across campuses “stomping out the violence” during the month of October. Attendees met with and heard had the opportunity to hear an empowering survivor story and that ended the day with a pledge vowing to be a “ray of hope” in their respective communities.
We would like to thank this year’s sponsors for their generosity:
