2013 ROHW Raises $7,500 for V-Day
Capping off the yearlong programmatic efforts of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. (OPBSI), an excited and diverse crowd of nearly 200 supporters attended OPBSI’s annual Ray of Hope Walk (ROHW) on Saturday, October 26th, 2013. Friends, families, colleagues and community members came together with a single, common goal – to raise funds for critical programs and initiatives on prevention, education, and assistance for families who have been affected by the violence that millions of women and girls are subjected to worldwide.
The 5k walk consisted of empowering performances by community activists and artists, informative activities and inspirational stories of survival. Award-winning television personality and survivor of domestic violence, Rhina Valentin, addressed attendees with a moving testimony on overcoming and surviving unhealthy relationships.
“Omega Phi Beta believes that every woman and girl deserves to live a life free of violence. The Ray of Hope Walk provides a platform to bring this issue of violence against women to the forefront. The funds raised at the walk have a real impact on the lives of the families who have suffered from the devastating effects that violence has had on their lives” said Monserrat Cabral, National President of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
Each year, the Ray of Hope Walk raises funds for an organization committed to ending gender based violence. This year the Ray of Hope Walk raised $7,500 for the national beneficiary, V-Day. The funds raised will provide critical resources to V-Day’s various educational programs and service initiatives. Each year, OPBSI hosts annual Ray of Hope Walk fundraising efforts around the country to support the Ray of Hope Walk to End Violence Against Women. Our Chapters and Collectives organize these programs and initiatives in their area to take a stand against violence and educate their community on the issue.
We would like to thank this year’s sponsors: State Farm – Hector Camilo Agency and Rotary International for their generosity. Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. would also like to thank ChaCha Cookies and Beachview Florist for their generous donations.
